"La Martinique" is a "DOM": a "french overseas départements" with the same status as mainland départements, it is in the West Indies islands in the lesser "Antilles". This island is situated in an inter-tropical zone, 7000 km away from the French home country, 2000 km away from United States and 440 km away from South American coast. At the East, Atlantic ocean, at the west the Caribbean sea.
Its bigest length is 64 km and its bigest width is 31 km. Maybe it looks short but the landscape is very varied in a short distance. To the North dense tropical forest, in the Center plain, swamp, "mangroves", in the South small bays: the "anses" follow one another. There, the beaches are very beautiful, with white sand, coconuts trees, hot and transparent sea.
A humid climate and a mild heat prevail on the island accompanied of the light gust of "Alizés". On average the temperature is 25°C by year. There is two seasons, from June to December the "hivernage" marked by strong rains specially on September to October, and the "Carême" dry season from January to May.
